About David Mbué
David Mbué was born in rural Kenya at the tail end of his country’s bitter war of independence. British colonial rule distraught African natives, not only by oppression and turning brother against brother, but largely because it first entered the land as Christian missionaries. It didn’t take long for many natives to deduce that the white man’s religion was a ploy to deceive and subjugate them. But the benefits of white missionary initiatives couldn’t be denied, and hence a thorny paradox.
David’s parents were among early converts who began to think outside mainline dogmas. That thrust the young boy into doctrinal arguments too complex for his age. After joining a boarding high school, he quit, unable to sustain the faith he had professed hitherto. But a few years later, having sank neck high into a world free of the ethics he was raised in, the young prodigal ran back to Jesus, broken, disoriented, and badly in need of a secure foundation.
The infinite mind of the Creator of the universe is truly unsearchable, but David couldn’t resist the invitation to “come, taste and see that the Lord is gracious.” This book is a little piece of what the taster has discovered, and he writes to invite others to the expedition.
